Spring Skiing Is A Perfect Time To Let Your Inner Fashionista Explode!

One of my favourite times of year is upon us! SPRING SKIING! Long sunshine filled days where you can feel the warmth of the sun while cruising groomers at mach five.  Where a goggle tan is the best compliment to your retro spring attire.  Earmuffs, headbands, high ponytails, onesies or anything from the 80’s are not only appropriate but highly encouraged.  Value Village is the best place for locating these fantastic finds.

Spring skiing has been one of my favourite parts of the ski season since I can remember.  Not only are the temperatures more forgiving, but the freeze-thaw process is a big enough excuse to not race to the hill for first chair.  This means for us backcountry beauties that we can take our time in the morning, ensuring the perfect pitch of our high ponytail/braid while sipping our americanos.

And when you’ve had your fill of skiing/snowboarding, there’s usually some afternoon events organized by the resort to be taken in at the base.  Not much can beat laying back in the embracing sun, cold beverage in hand and listening to a live band.

Lake Louise Spring Skiing Upcoming Events

April 27-28 Hurricane Felix and the Southern Twisters will be pumping the tunes at the base in the afternoon. X92.9 will be on the hill handing out lots of cool prizes too!

May 3-4 Monster Energy Ruckus In The Rockies; watch the Monster Energy team riders and their invited guests compete in various park events for big cash prizes.  Live music, bouncy castles, sumo suite wrestling and more will all be happening at the base in the afternoon as well.

May 5 The last day of the season is the Mountain Throwback Funk Jam; DJs, face painting, bouncy castle and sumo suit wrestling, a hotdog eating contest will all be happening at the base starting in the afternoon.  Also be sure to participate in a funky lap of Wiwaxy dressed up in your best throwback gear to win the best dressed competition!

Sunshine Village Spring Skiing Upcoming Events

April 27-28 Tim Hus (a Canadian country/folk singer) will be playing outside the Mountain Lodge as part of the Spring Concert Series.  Also by the Mountain Lodge there will be evening apres-ski tobogganing.

May 4-5 New Moon will be playing at the Mountain Lodge as part of the Spring Concert Series.  New Moon is a Canadian band with Reggae infused music, brought back by popular demand!

May 11-12 TR3 will be pumping out their infectious dance beats on Saturday and Funk & Disorderly will be playing on Sunday, both part of the Spring Concert Series.

May 18-19 The Steadies will be playing in the afternoon as part of the Spring Concert Series.  The Steadies take the explosively popular Top 40 sound and mix it with rocksteady and reggae influences, creating what they’ve dubbed, “island rock”. As well it is the Bikinis And Boardshorts 4th Annual Ski And Ride For Cancer.  Participants raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation or the Prostate Cancer Foundation by skiing or boarding wearing only a bikini top or boardshorts.

May 20 Witness or participate in the 85th Annual Slush Cup! If you have the nerve to hurl yourself across the pond of ice water, be sure to get there early as spots fill up fast! Prizes are given out for not only making it across but also for Awesome Air, Best Belly Flop and Excellent Enema.

There are also apres-ski events happening at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge during the week so be sure to check out their event calendar so you don’t miss out on all the fun.

So if you’re looking for something to do this weekend, don’t discount the ski hills! The snow may be long gone in the city but there’s enough white stuff out in the mountains to keep cruising till the end of May.  Lake Louise is open till May 5th and Sunshine’s last day and annual slush cup is May 20th!
